The Red-headed cardinal beetle (Pyrochroa serraticornis) is a common beetle throughout the UK, and can normally be seen between May and July. The adult feeds on other insects, while the larvae of the Red-headed cardinal beetle live under tree bark, where they feed on the larvae of other insects.

Pyrochroa serraticornis is a bright red colour, about 20mm long, with black comb-like antennae.
