A macropterous Javesella pellucida planthopper sits on a blade of grass.
Javesella pellucida occurs in both macropterous (long winged) and brachypterous (short winged) forms. Colour varies between individuals, with a dark brown colour being most common. Females have a lighter colouration than males, and brachypters also tend to be lighter than macropters.
Javesella pellucida is one of the most common planthoppers in the UK, feeding mainly on grass. The adult is approximately 3mm in length, and can be found from around April to October in the UK.
