Amisan (아미산) garden in Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) Palace, Seoul (서울), South Korea (대한민국). Constructed in 1869, the garden was created on a terraced mound, using excavated soil from the construction of the pond surrounding the nearby Gyeonghoeru (경회루) Pavilion.
Amisan garden is located behind Gyotaejeon (교태전), the queen's living quarters. It is named after Mount Emei (峨嵋山), a Chinese mountain famed for its beauty, and one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China.
The main feature of Amisan is the four orange brick hexagonal chimneys. The chimneys were used to expel the smoke from the ondol (온돌) underfloor heating system in Gyotaejeon. The chimneys are decorated with a variety of designs, and were declared a national treasure (no. 811) in January 1985.
