Description

Title:
Geunjeongmun Gate and Yeongjegyo Bridge
Caption / Description:

Geunjeongmun (근정문) Gate and Yeongjegyo Bridge (영제교) in Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) Palace in Seoul (서울), South Korea (대한민국).

Geunjeongmun was used for coronations, starting in 1452 with the coronation of King Danjong, the fourth king of the Joseon dynasty. Geunjeongmun would also be used for small meetings between the king and officials. When ceremonies were held at Geunjeongmun, higher ranked officials would line up to the north of Yeongjegyo Bridge, while the lower ranked officials would stand to the south of the bridge.
