Sajeongjeon Hall (사정전) Throne room in Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) Palace, Seoul (서울), South Korea (대한민국). The painting behind the throne features 5 sacred mountains with the moon and the sun, and is known as Irworobongdo
(일월오봉도).
The king's throne was situated at the center of the painting to symbolize the king's position as the center of a balanced universe and the link between heaven and earth. An Irworobongdo painting would be placed behind the king's throne wherever he held court.
Sajeongjeon Hall (사정전) was used as the main office where the King would discuss national affairs with his court officials during the Joseon dynasty. Sajeong (사정) means 'to ponder deeply over the careful execution of state affairs'. As well as being used for governmental meetings, Sajeongjeon was also used for qualifying examinations for the civil service and the occaisional party for the King's relatives and ministers.
