Looking through a sculpture on Gwanghwamun Plaza (광화문 광장) in central Seoul (서울), South Korea (대한민국). Through the sculpture can be seen a small section of the flower carpet – planted with 224,537 flowers, one flower for each day from Oct 28th 1394, when Seoul was made the capital of the Joseon dynasty, until August 1st 2009, when Gwanghwamun Plaza was officially opened.
The flower carpet is 17.5m wide, by 165m long, and is planted in the traditional Korean Dancheong (단청) pattern.
