Building materials for the reconstruction of Gwanghwamun (광화문) Gate, with Heungnyemun Gate (흥례문) and Bukhansan (북한산) mountain in the background.
Gwanghwamun Gate is currently being rebuilt by the Korean Government, in order to move it back to its original location and alignment with the main north-south axis of Gyeongbokgung (경복궁) Palace. The current gate, an earlier reconstruction, had been constructed with concrete and aligned with the (now demolished) Japanese General Government Building. The new building will be constructed using Korean Pine.
Construction started in December 2006, and is currently expected to finish in October 2010.
