Silver Y (Autographa Gamma)

Silver Y (Autographa Gamma)

Description

Title:
Silver Y (Autographa Gamma)
Caption / Description:

The Silver Y (Autographa gamma) is named for the marking on its wings, which looks like the latin letter Y or the Greek letter γ.

It is a medium sized migratory moth, resident in parts of North Africa and the Mediterranean, migrating as far north as Greenland. The Silver Y flies both during the day and at night, and can often be seen feeding from flowers around dusk.

The Silver Y larvae feed on low growing plants, including crops, and so can be considered a pest by farmers.
