Stokesay Castle is the oldest fortified Manor House in England.
The majority of the structure was built in the late 13th Century by the local wool merchant Laurence of Ludlow, with the Jaobean Gatehouse added in the 16th century. The North Tower (shown here) is one of the oldest parts of the building, begun in around 1240.
