Shooting into the sun creates a large amount of lens flare when photographing in infrared. The flare spreads over the image, hiding most of the detail of the landscape.
The flare is created by internal reflections caused by the lens / filter / camera combination. Most lenses are fairly well corrected for minimizing lens flare in normal photography, but are not developed for infrared use. Surfaces inside the lens may absorb visible light, preventing lens flare in normal use, but reflect infrared light, causing bad lens flare when used to capture infrared.
The scene mostly obscured by the lens flare here is the River Welland near Thorpe Lubenham. On the west bank of the river are several oak trees, lacking any leaves as the photo was taken in January.
