FamilyMart (훼미리마트 - hwemirimateu) is a convenience store franchise chain, and is the largest chain store in South Korea, with 4,621 shops (as of August 2009). The first FamilyMart store was opened in Japan in 1981, since then the franchise has expanded to cover Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, mainland China, and there are even a few stores in the USA.
The lack of people and traffic on the street (except for a towering Mauser) is in stark contrast to what the busy street normally looks likes - this photo was taken on National Foundation Day (개천절 - Gae-cheon-jeol), a national holiday.
