A red-green crab apple growing on a European Crabapple tree (Malus sylvestris). The fruits are around 4 - 5 cm in diameter and ripen in early Autumn.

Although the fruits have a strong taste, they are sometimes picked for human consumption and made into crab apple jelly. They are a popular food source for a variety of birds.
