Flowers of Common Ragwort, Jacobaea vulgaris, photograhed in ultraviolet light. The plant has large clusters of bright yellow flowers, and flowers over a long period, typically from June to November.
In UV the centres of the flowers appear much darker than they do in visible light. It is thought that these differences may help attract insects, which can see ultraviolet light, to the area of the flower where the nectar and pollen are located.
