Two flowers of Ground Ivy (Glechoma hederacea). The plant has small blue-violet flowers with a deeper purple colour around the entrance to the throat. The flowers grow in opposed clusters of 2-3 in the leaf axils.
Ground Ivy is common throughout Europe and North America, where it was introduced by European Settlers. It has both medicinal and culinary uses, but is more often used as a garden flower. It spreads quickly through stolons, and is often considered a weed where it is unwanted.
