Ultraviolet photograph of the Orange Welsh Poppy (Meconopsis cambrica var. aurantiaca) flower.
In ultraviolet the stigma and stamens appear much darker than they do under visible light. The base of the petals also have UV markings, which are not visible to humans. Bees and some other insects can see ultraviolet light, and these differences in ultraviolet may help guide them to the area of the flower where the nectar and pollen are located.
