A House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) perches on top of a bush on a cold winter's day.
The House Sparrow is the most widely distributed wild bird. Native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean, and Asia, it has been introduced (both purposefully and unintentionally) into most other parts of the world as well.
They are often found around areas of human settlement, and are rarely found in areas away from human activity. Most Sparrows breed in inhabited areas, often making their nests in buidlings.
