Common Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) flowers in ultraviolet

Description

Title:
Common Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) flowers in ultraviolet
Caption / Description:

Ultraviolet photograph of Common Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) flowers.

Although humans cannot see ultraviolet light, many insects, which the Dandelion relies on for polination, can. The centre of the Dandelion flower is much darker when viewed in ultraviolet light, acting as a 'nectar guide' for insects.
