A Coenosia tigrina species fly rests on the flower head of a small grass in the early evening. Coenosia tigrina is a common muscid fly, found throughout the UK. It feeds on smaller flies. The abdomen has large brown spots and sometimes features black bands between the abdominal segments, where the intersegmental membranes can be seen.
