Pupae of the two-spot ladybird (Adalia bipunctata). Inside the pupa the larval stage of the ladybird metamorphises into the adult form.

Adalia bipunctata is also known as the two-spotted ladybug or two-spotted lady beetle, it is a small ladybird found throughout western and central Europe and North America. They feed on aphids and other small insects, and are sometimes used as a biological control agent to keep aphid populations down.
