Tamon turret and Daimon gate of Osaka Castle (大坂城; 大阪城; Ōsaka-jō), in Osaka, Japan. Tamon turret (多聞櫓; Tamon-Yagura) was built atop the tall box shaped stone walls of Ote gate (大手門; Ōte-Mon), the "front" gate on the western side of the castle. The turret encompasses the main gate (大門; Daimon), which leads to the second citadel, and defends this entrance. It is the largest remaining turret of this type in Japan, and has been designated as an Important Cultural Asset by the government.
The turret was originally built in 1628, but was destroyed by lightning in 1783. It wasn't reconstructed until 1848, after the Shogunate raised money to repair the castle. In 1969 Tamon-Yagura was subject to restoration work, and was dismantled and rebuilt. The total area of the turret covers 600.45m².
