Sakura Gate Stone Square (桜門枡形の巨石; Sakuramon masugata no kiyoseki) in Osaka Castle (大坂城; 大阪城; Ōsaka-jō), Osaka, Japan. Sakuramon acted as the gate to the castle's central citadel, with large stone walls built for defence purposes. The gate was burnt down in 1868 during the Meiji Restoration when the castle was surrendered to the Emperor's forces. The scorch marks left by the burning gate can still be seen on the stones today.
The wall was built in 1624 as part of Osaka Castle's reconstruction under Tokugawa Hidetada. It contains two of the largest stones used in the castle's construction. The largest stone used is called the Octopus Stone (蛸石; Takoisi), which has a surface area of 60m² and estimated weight on 130 tons. The third largest stone used in the castle is also part of this wall, the Kimono Sleeve Stone (振袖石; Furisode-seki). This stone has a surface area of 54m² and is estimated to weigh 120 tons.
