Steps up to Oe Shrine (大江神社; Ōe Jinja), in Osaka city, Japan. The entrance to the shrine passes under a stone torii (鳥居) gate, used to mark the entrance to a sacred space. Either side of the steps is a komainu (狛犬) statue. The komainu is a heavily stylised lion figure that is often used to guard the entrance of Shinto shrines.
