A 650 year old Bower Actinidia plant in the rear garden of Changdeokgung palace, Seoul, South Korea. The plant measures 20m in height and 0.72m circumference at the widest part of its trunk. It has six entangled trunks that spread out in all directions, and is the largest and oldest of all Bower Actinidia trees in Korea.
This Bower Actinidia is a male plant, and with no female plants around, does not produce fruit. The long life of this tree indicates how well preserved the secret garden of Changdeokgung is, since it was first created in 1405. The garden of Changdeokgung has very little landscaping, and the buildings in the garden have been arranged so as to complement the natural landscape of the area.
