The pond is located in the rear garden of the palace, and was originally 6 smaller ponds, which were combined into a single pond during the Japanese Occupation. The area contains a number of pavilions with different shapes: Jondeokjeong - a hexagaonal pavilion; Gwallamjeong - a fan shaped pavilion; Seungjaejeong - a square pavilion; and Pyeomusa - originally built in the shape of the Korean language character ㄱ.
