The view across Buyongji pond towards Juhamnu in Changdeokgung palace, Seoul, South Korea. Buyongji (Lotus pond) is located in the rear garden of Changdeokgung, and was used by the royal family for retreat and study. To the north-west of the pond is Eosumun (魚水門), the name of this gate was to remind the king that just as a fish cannot survive without water, the king depends on his officials.
Beyond Eosumun is a large two-storied building, which housed Gyujanggak, the royal library on the first floor, and Juhamnu, a reading room on the second floor. To the west of Juhamnu is Seohyanggak, a building where more books were stored, while to the east is Cheonseokjeong, a pavilion used for reading and study.
