Looking along the back of Seonwonjeon, in Changdeokgung palace, Seoul, South Korea. Seonwonjeon was used as a royal shrine where the portraits of former kings were enshrined and ancestral rites were performed. The area fell into disrepair during the Japanese occupation of Korea after a new royal shrine was built further north in the garden of Changdeokgung.
A restoration project was started in 1991 to restore Changdeokgung to its original state, with the area of Seonwonjeon being restored in 2005.
