Buildings in the west side of Gwolnaegaksa, in Changdeokgung palace, Seoul, South Korea. Gwolnaegaksa was an area of Changdeokgung where government offices were located. Though most government offices were located outside of the palace, those closely involved with the royal household's affairs were built within the palace grounds.
Because so many of the king's support offices were packed together in a relatively small area, Gwolnaegaksa has a labyrinthine feel. During the Japanese occupation of Korea the buildings in Gwolnaegaksa were destroyed and paved over with roads, the current buildings were rebuilt as part of the Changdeokgung restoration project, which started in 1991.
