The Chinese Juniper tree at the west of Gwolnaegaksa, in Changdeokgung palace, Seoul, South Korea. The tree is estimated to be around 750 years old, and is 12m high and 5.9m in circumference at the widest part of its trunk. Juniper wood was used to make incense for ancestral rituals, which would be carried out at the nearby Seonwonjeon shrine to the east.
The building to the left of the tree is Bongmodang, the Hall of Upholding the Policies of Former Kings. Here were kept the records of the Joseon monarchy.
