Looking east across the Injeong outer courtyard, in Changdeokgung palace, Seoul, South Korea. Contrasting with the Joseon era architecture of the palace, in the distance can be seen the modern buildings of the Sam-Hwan Building (furthest left), Garden Tower (next left), and the Hyundai Buildings (centre).
Changdeokgung was originally built in 1405, though since then buildings have been destroyed and rebuilt at various times. Changdeokgung has been under restoration since 1991, with buildings being repaired, and some buildings that were destroyed during the Japanese occupation being rebuilt. The site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997.
To the right is Injeongmun, the gate that leads to the inner courtyard and throne room of Changdeokgung. At the other end of the path is Jinseonmun gate, and the section of collonaded building to the left is Howicheong, which was used for guard posts.
