Looking north towards the building at the south of Okdang (also known as Hongmungwan), in Changdeokgung Palace, Seoul, South Korea. Changdeokgung was built as a secondary palace in 1405, and then used as the primary palace for Korea's monarchy from 1610 until 1868. The original buildings here were destroyed during the Japanese occupation of Korea, but were reconstructed between 1991 and 2005.
The roofs of the buildings are tiled, with patterned tiles at the edge of the roof and tiles with dragon designs on the end tiles. The woodwork of the buildings are painted in the bright and colourful traditional Korean dancheong style.
