Description

Title:
Car park and Daegaksa temple
Caption / Description:

Looking across a car park towards Daegaksa temple in Bongik-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. The temple is part of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.

Daegaksa was founded in 1911 and played a part in the Korean Independence movement during the Japanese occupation. The head of the temple, Yong Seong, provided funds to support the Independence Army in Manchuria, and Kim Gu, a famous Independence activist, stayed at the temple when he was in Seoul.
