A bas-relief monument of the Korean independence movement at Tapgol Park (탑골 공원), Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. This relief depicts a man and woman proudly flying the Taegeukgi (the Korean flag) while the Japanese police point their guns at them.
The protest against Japanese rule started on March 1st 1919 where the Korean Declaration of Independence was read in Tapgol Park. Other demonstrations soon followed across the country, which the Japanese police attempted to surpress.
