The ten storey stone pagoda of Wongaksa temple (원각사지십층석탑), located in Tapgol Park (탑골 공원), Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. The pagoda was errected in 1467, the thirteenth year of King Sejo of Joseon. It is regarded as one of the finest examples of stone pagodas from the Joseon period.
The pagoda is constructed from marble, and is 12m high. The pedestal and first three levels are built in the shape of the chinese character 亞, while the top seven tiers are square shaped. The pedestal of the pagoda is divided into three levels. The lower level carved with patterns of dragons and lotus flowers. The middle level is carved with a depiction of the party of Monk Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing obtaining and returning with a Buddhist canon from India. The top level of the base is carved with depictions of the former lives and lifetime of Buddha. The main part of the pagoda is carved with the scene of a Buddhist mass.
In 1962 the ten storey stone pagoda of Wongaksa temple was designated as National Treasure of Korea #2. A large structure has been built around the pagoda to protect it from the elements and vandalism.
