Description

Title:
Crushing House, Brown Clee Hill
Caption / Description:

From around 1906 until about 1936 Brown Clee Hill was quarried for Dhustone. Dhustone (Dolerite) is a hard volcanic rock that was used for building roads, kerbstones, and gateposts.

There are many abandoned quarry and mining buildings on Brown Clee Hill, shown here is a crushing plant, where the quarried stone could be broken up and crushed before being taken down the hill.
