Offerings of bottled water are placed on a table in front of a baby Buddha statue at Jogyesa Temple, in Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea. Jogyesa Temple is the head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.
Drinking water made as a Buddhist offering should have 8 properties - cool, delicious, light, soft, clear, fresh, good for the stomach, and soothing to the throat. These properties symbolise the qualities of auspiciousness.
Behind the statue is Baeksong, a white pine tree, designated as National Monument No.9 in Korea. The tree is thought to have been brought here from China, and is 500 years old.
