Frogspawn of the Common frog (Rana temporaria). During spawning in early Spring, the female frog will generally lay around 1000-2000 eggs. The eggs are coated in jelly, and provide food for the young tadpoles. A few days after hatching the tadpoles move on to algae as a food source and the frogspawn jelly gradually disintegrates into the pond water.
