Doves and pigeons used to be kept on Estates as a source of eggs and meat. At Acton Scott the original dovecote was by the walled garden, but was demolished in 1809 and the birds were probably transferred to the loft shown here, above the Estate Workshop. Inside there are are nesting boxes to house about 50 birds, which can enter and leave through the wooden frame. The loft currently houses a small flock of Turbit pigeons.
