A carving on a misericord (mercy seat) in the choir stalls at the Parish Church of St Laurence, Ludlow, Shropshire, UK.
In Medieval times prayers would be said standing up, the seats were designed to be flipped up, and had a small lip allowing a worshipper a small amount of mercy by being able to lean on it. Underneath the seats were often elaborate carvings, as shown here.
